With roots back to 1769 and a more than 235 years past the university is one of the country’s most famous universities, having 5 faculties with 1,400 professors and researchers. Based on the R&D index it is one of the best Hungarian universities where 22 R&D groups deal with research and development. At the 25 clinics of the university there is a high level medicine and education, too. Since its establishment the university issued more than 100.000 diplomas and currently it is educating 8,400 students out of which 1,500 are from abroad. The scientific life is characterised by the numbers of 1.500 publications / year, 1.400 impact factors / year and 35 – 40 Ph.D. dissertations /year. The university is proud of its three 3 Nobel-prize winners, Hungarian doctors having studied at the university.
 
The leading institute of the Hungarian graduate and post-graduate education where besides the Hungarian there are medicine, dentistry and pharmacy courses in English and German. Regarding the post-graduate education the university assumes an active part in both the resident and Ph.D. education. The Doctor’s School of the University more than several hundreds of PhD students have graduated, currently there are 60-70 scholars per year and the same number of free-educational and self-financed Ph.D. students starting their studies. The university – within the supported research positions’ network – maintains a strong connection with the MTA, and among the topic responsible people of the current tender there are 12 who control a sponsored research base, too. One of the main sites of the Hungarian bio-medical research: the Semmelweis University. The topic leaders of the tender are already featuring 114 Ph.D. theses, the number of publications is 2.190, the independent citation has come up to almost 21000.
 
In the researching area the ten topic leaders of the university possess a laboratory, and nine of them are also supported by the MTA. Just mentioning a few of the modern instrumental park: Affimetrix, Flowcitometer and PCR.
 
In the educational area too, Semmelweis University (SE) provides a serious background for the SzKC. In the gradual education besides the class lectures it assumes a part in the TDK educational tasks, too, while in the post-graduate education it operates a university doctor school and holds Ph.D. courses (the program assumes 14, out of which 9 by the SE)
 
As the clinical background it provides complete patient material for the R&D tasks. The vast Clinic-pharmacology department can also be considered here possessing a know-how, being the most significant area of trying the drug.
